The 2001 Taupō Fault Belt Seismicity as Evidence of Magma‐Tectonic Interaction at Taupō Volcano

چکیده

Abstract The Taupō Volcanic Zone (TVZ) is the southern extent of Tonga‐Kermadec volcanic arc and encompasses Rift, with two structures accommodating extension through central North Island New Zealand via magmatic tectonic processes, respectively. Interplay between components TVZ Rift are evident at volcano, which exhibits periods increased seismicity on a decadal scale. One period occurred in 2001 outside caldera adjacent Fault Belt. We use seismological analysis to detect characterize Belt seismicity, aligns clusters close active faults, was preceded by large cluster earthquakes beneath Lake Taupō's Western Bay. This temporal change local stress field imply that intrusion Bay initiated unrest fault belt. Our suggests this may have silicic reservoir it represents an example interaction regional deep mafic systems Taupō.

Tectonics of the Intermountain Seismic Belt , Western United States : Microearthquake Seismicity and Composite Fault Plane Solutions

During the summer of 1969, six portable seismographs were operated at 82 sites along the Intermountain Seismic Belt from southwestern Utah to northwestern Montana. This survey followed a well-known seismic belt along the eastern physiographic boundary of the Basin and Range province, and within the middle and northern Rocky Mountains. In general, the 120 microearthquakes located in this study f...

A comparison between the Kazerun (Iran) and the North Anatolian (Turkey) fault systems in fault interaction and seismicity migration based on the spatiotemporal analysis of earthquakes

The Kazerun Fault System (KFS) is a right-lateral strike slip fault system in the middle part of the Zagros seismogenic zone in Iran. Historical and instrumental earthquake data catalogs of this fault system show good evidence of fault interactions and seismic migrations. This study provides evidence for the migration of seismicity in the middle part of the Zagros region along the segments of t...

Volcano-earthquake interaction at Mauna Loa volcano, Hawaii

[1] The activity at Mauna Loa volcano, Hawaii, is characterized by eruptive fissures that propagate into the Southwest Rift Zone (SWRZ) or into the Northeast Rift Zone (NERZ) and by large earthquakes at the basal decollement fault. In this paper we examine the historic eruption and earthquake catalogues, and we test the hypothesis that the events are interconnected in time and space. Earthquake...
